Terms of service
These terms cover the free website at fireriskhere.com (the map, state pages, address check, and email alerts) and the paid FireRiskHere Watch subscription. Using the site or starting a Watch trial means you agree to them. They are written in plain language on purpose; if a court finds a clause unenforceable, the rest still applies.
1. What the service is
FireRiskHere shows wildfire information compiled from public sources — principally the National Interagency Fire Center’s WFIGS incident and perimeter feeds, NASA FIRMS satellite detections, the SILVIS Lab wildland-urban interface dataset, and CAL FIRE fire hazard severity zones. We refresh incident data every 15 minutes and present it as maps, tables, counts, and email or SMS alerts.
2. What the service is not
FireRiskHere is an awareness tool, not an emergency notification system. It supplements — and never replaces — evacuation orders and warnings from your county sheriff, local emergency management, and state and federal agencies. Feeds can lag, be incomplete, or be wrong; satellite detections can be false positives; a fire can exist before any feed lists it; alerts can be delayed or fail to send. Distances are measured to a fire’s reported point of origin or published perimeter, not to its actual edge. Do not make safety decisions solely on information from this service. If you believe you are in danger, follow official instructions and call emergency services.
3. Watch subscriptions, trials, and billing
Watch is billed by Stripe on the plan and interval you choose. Paid plans start with a 14-day free trial; a payment method is collected at signup and the first charge happens when the trial ends unless you cancel before then. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period. You can cancel at any time from the link in your Stripe receipt or by emailing support@fireriskhere.com; cancellation stops future charges and the service continues to the end of the paid period. Fees already paid are not refunded, except where the law requires it or we chose to. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any taxes we are required to collect. We may change prices with at least 30 days’ notice by email; the change applies from your next renewal.
Each plan has a maximum number of monitored locations. If you exceed it we will ask you to upgrade; we do not silently overcharge.
4. Your data and your responsibilities
You are responsible for the addresses and contact details you load into Watch and for having the right to monitor them. Alerts go to the recipients you configure; keep that list current. We handle personal data as described in the privacy page. Do not use the service to harass anyone, to resell raw data as your own, or in any way that breaks the law.
5. Availability and changes
We aim for the service to be available at all times but do not guarantee it. Upstream feeds, hosting providers, and email or SMS carriers are outside our control. We may change or discontinue features; if we discontinue Watch entirely we will give paying subscribers at least 30 days’ notice and refund any prepaid unused period.
6. Limits of liability
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, FireRiskHere and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages, or for any loss of property, business, or life arising from use of or reliance on the service, including missed, delayed, or inaccurate alerts. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or US$100 if you paid nothing.
7. Third-party data
Fire data is US government work in the public domain; SILVIS and other datasets are used under their published terms and credited on the methodology page. Map tiles and geocoding come from OpenStreetMap contributors. Their terms apply to their data.
8. Changes to these terms and contact
We may update these terms; material changes to paying subscribers are announced by email at least 30 days ahead. Continued use after a change means you accept it. Questions: the contact form or support@fireriskhere.com.
